life and career

Palmer's maiden name is Patricia Betsy Hrunek. Her father Vincent Hrunek was a Czechoslovak chemist who immigrated to the United States. Palmer studied at DePaul University in Chicago and gained his first acting experience with stage appearances.

She began her professional acting career on Broadway ; in 1951 followed an appearance on the television series Miss Susan . More engagements soon followed, making Palmer a familiar face on American television in the 1950s. In the meantime, she also acted as a presenter for the Today Show on NBC . For many years she was also one of the co-rulers of the popular TV quiz show I've Got a Secret , in which the prominent guessing team had to discover the secrets of the show guests. She first appeared on the big screen in the film With Body and Soul with Tyrone Power by director John Ford , followed by No Time for Heroism (1955) alongside Henry Fonda and Jack Lemmon and the Western Star of the Law (1957), again with Henry Fonda.

In the 1960s and 1970s, their engagements dropped significantly until their career picked up speed again in the television sector with the surprise success of the movie Friday the 13th (1980). Palmer had reluctantly accepted the role of Pamela Voorhees on Friday the 13th , and in his own words only to be able to afford a new car. She was still involved in the first sequel to the subject, which was later developed many times over, in 1981, and she turned down guest appearances later.

Her last film appearance was in 2007 in the direct-to-video horror film Bell Witch: The Movie . She died on May 29, 2015 at the age of 88 in a hospice near Danbury, Connecticut.
