Friday the 13th - Jason Returns is a 1981 American horror film directed by Steve Miner . The film is the first sequel to the horror classic Friday the 13th.
action
Five years have passed since the terrible events at Camp Crystal Lake. When the only survivor, Alice, disappears without a trace, no one suspects that the act will repeat itself. Only traces of blood were found in her apartment. A new camp is opened, which is located on the same lake as the "Crystal Lake" camp. The camp director, Paul, is preparing with his girlfriend Ginny and the other caregivers to open the camp soon. When Paul goes on a trip into town with his employees one night, some stay behind. While they are having fun in a pub, strange things are happening in the camp. A strange man with a sack over his head begins to slaughter the guards. When Paul and Ginny return to camp, they realize that something is wrong. All have disappeared without a trace. While Paul looks downstairs, Ginny finds a blood-smeared bed one floor up. From the darkness, Paul is attacked by the stranger, Jason. When Jason reappears and not Paul, Ginny runs into the woods. She barely escapes him several times until she discovers a lonely house. There she finds a woman's head and an old sweater. She sees Jason coming and locks the door. He tries to break the door open with a pickaxe. Meanwhile, Ginny puts on the sweater and slowly understands what has happened: Jason continues killing for his mother, who was beheaded in the first part, in order to avenge her. As he walks into the room, Ginny encourages him and makes him kneel down. But when he realizes that his mother is not talking to him, but that her head is still on the table, he wants to kill Ginny. At that moment Paul appears and fights with Jason. Ginny gets the machete and rams it deep into Jason's shoulder. When he falls dead on the floor, she takes the cloth off his head. You return to the camp. When they arrive at the house, they hear the door scratching. Paul opens it, but when a dog stands in front of them, they are relieved. Ginny has her back to a window. When she gets up, Jason jumps through the window and knocks her to the ground. Only now can you see Jason's disfigured face. The next morning, Ginny is removed by an ambulance. However, there is no trace of Paul.
Trivia
- Jason only gets his characteristic trademark, an ice hockey mask, in the third part. In this part he wears a dirty sack over his head.
- Jason got a different mask in the following films because in 1980 the drama " The Elephant Man " was released in which the main character also carried a sack over his head. They didn't want Jason to be compared to a serious character like the Elephant Man.
- In this part, Jason appears as an adult for the first time.
- Jason Voorhees is played (as is usually the case in this series) by two actors: a stuntman and one who is used for close-ups or unmasked shots.
- The German title of the film is "Jason returns", although this is his first appearance as a killer.
- The cat that Alice "jumps on" in the opening sequence is obviously thrown through the window.
- The opening scene lasts 12 minutes - only then does the title of the film appear.
- It was originally planned that Pamela Voorhees' mummified head would open his eyes at the end of the final scene. Ultimately, however, director Steve Miner decided against it because he thought it was nonsense and feared that the overall impression of the film could be diminished.
- 10 people are killed in this film. The weapons include: ice ax, hammer, machete, barbed wire, spear.
- The low-budget film cost about 1 million US dollars .
- The film grossed $ 21.7 million (in the US).
- The worldwide box office result (to date), including rental and video / DVD, is approximately 60 million US dollars.
- The station " Das Vierte " broadcast the film on November 2, 2006 for the first time on television. Due to the indexing, the film had to be cut short, so much that it was partly only through the non-reappearance of the actors that they had fallen victim to Jason.
- In parts 2 to 4 Jason runs after his victims to kill them, but already in the other parts he walks slowly towards them. True to the motto: "You can run away from me, but you cannot hide from me."
- After the film was released on DVD by Paramount in 2002, the film was released as a special edition on Blu-ray Disc in February 2009 . Both the DVD and the Blu-ray edition contain the R-rated version of the film. The first delivery of the Blu-ray Disc was wrongly carried out with an “FSK 18” logo on the front cover according to examination law after 2003. This gave the impression that the film was allowed to be freely available and could no longer be indexed. However, since the film was still indexed and was checked by the FSK before 2003, the new “FSK 18” logo could not be shown on the Blu-ray edition. According to Paramount, the second delivery should be delivered without the wrong FSK logo.
- The Federal Testing Office for Media Harmful to Young People removed the film from the list of media harmful to young people (“Index”) in August 2009.
- After being deleted from the list, the film was the first in the Friday 13th series to be approved by the FSK for people aged 16 and over in the unabridged version.
Reviews
Like the first part, the sequel initially met with a negative response. On the Rotten Tomatoes website , 34% of the reviews were positive. In the Internet Movie Database he was able to achieve a rating of 6.1 out of 10 possible points. Within the series, both are among the better results.
The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was “just as rude and striking as its predecessor and almost exclusively aimed at bloodthirsty shock effects”.
