Friday the 13th - A new beginning

Friday the 13th - The Final Chapter (Original title: Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter ) is an American horror film from 1984 by Joseph Zito . The film is the fourth part of the horror film series Friday the 13th .

action

The film follows exactly on from the plot of the third part . While the killer Jason is found dead and taken by the police to the mortuary department of the adjoining hospital, the 12-year-old Tommy moves into a holiday home with his mother and sister Trish. Right next to it is another holiday home, which is used as accommodation by a group of young people.

The killer Jason has since come back to life and kills a nurse and a nurse while escaping from the hospital. Now he seeks revenge and makes his way to the infamous "Crystal Lake". During the night the youngsters have a party in the house and two of them are murdered. Samantha is lying in the rubber dinghy on the lake and is stabbed to death from below. Your friend finds the body and wants to flee to the bank. There he is killed by a harpoon shot in the genitals. Now there are two more couples in the log cabin. First Jimmy is killed with a corkscrew, then Tina is thrown from the first floor and Ted is stabbed in the back of the head with a knife. Jason kills the last two teenagers with an ax and his bare hand. Tommy and his sister are still alive in the next house, but Jason has already killed their mother.

When Tommy and Trish find their dead mother, panic breaks out and they hide in the house. Jason also appears when a corpse is thrown through the window. Tommy's sister is chased by Jason and can briefly incapacitate him by throwing a television at him. But this one gets up to a new attack. But Tommy can help her at the last moment. He shaves his hair off so that he looks like the drowned young Jason, whom he knows from old newspaper reports. This distracts Jason so much that Tommy's sister has the opportunity to knock the mask off Jason's head with a machete. Then Jason attacks Trish, but Tommy grabs the machete and hits Jason several times. At the end of the film you see Trish lying in the hospital bed, her doctor, a policeman and a nurse are in her room, all of whom go outside because Trish has asked to speak to her brother. After the siblings have hugged and sees Tommy with a strange, unfathomable look into the camera, the film is over.

background

The production cost of the film was only 2.6 million US dollars , but the film was a success at the box office. It grossed 32.9 million US dollars in the USA and almost 90 million US dollars internationally, including the proceeds from DVD and video sales.

The film will be available in Germany for the first time on July 3, 2017 and will be published in a mediabook by the Austrian label 84´ Entertainment. In contrast, in France , like its predecessor, the film is released from the age of 12 and in Italy from the age of 14. The video version was confiscated in Germany , although the publication had already been cut about the most brutal murders. The Federal Testing Office for Media Harmful to Young Persons indexed the film on May 30, 2014, on Part B of the list, due to the still existing seizure.

The Berlin Regional Court overturned the confiscation order of January 19, 2017 for the German uncut version. Indexing was lifted in March 2017. The label '84 Entertainment is currently striving for an FSK approval. The film was ultimately not approved for minors.

The television premiere in Germany took place on September 15, 2019 on TELE5.

Reviews

On Rotten Tomatoes , only 25% of the critics gave the film a positive rating, which means that it was rated better than its direct predecessor. With a user rating of 6.0 out of 10 in the Internet Movie Database , it achieved the third-best result in the entire film series.

The lexicon of international films wrote: "Stupid blood opera with a few sex interludes."

Trivia

Ted White revealed in an interview in 1987 that in hindsight he felt a little uncomfortable with his role as Jason. Because of this, he insisted on not being featured in the film's credits . He turned down requests to play Jason Voorhees in the other two parts, which he said he later regretted. During his career as a stuntman , which corresponds to his actual profession, he doubled Hollywood stars such as Clark Gable , Lee Marvin and John Wayne .

computer game

In 1985, Domark released a computer game for the film entitled Friday the 13th for the Commodore C64 , Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum . As a bonus, the game came with a bag of film blood.

The player's task is to run through the landscape of the Crystal Lake resort, to find and kill Jason before he kills you or too many of his friends. This procedure must be carried out by the player with several pawns in order to win the game. The player can move freely around the world of Crystal Lake consisting of 20 screens. The life energy of all vacationers is displayed in the form of Jason's ice hockey mask. When the player enters a screen with a corpse, one of two shocking graphics, accompanied by death screeches, is sometimes displayed.

In addition to the death screams, the following melodies appear:
