Ted White (born January 25, 1926 in Texas ) is an American stuntman and actor best known for playing Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th - The Final Chapter . He is also known as a double for John Wayne , Fess Parker , Clark Gable, and Richard Boone .

Career

Ted White played football for the University of Oklahoma . He then pursued a stuntman and acting career. In Sands of Iwo Jima (1949), White was approached about his Marine Corps background when a consultant was needed in the design of the island. It was at this time that White met John Wayne and began working as his stunt double in 1952.

White has had minor roles in western films and television series such as Daniel Boone , the Andy Griffith Show , Hunter , Magnum, PI, and Detective Rockford - call it all , usually in more serious and tougher roles such as cops or hired thugs.

In 1984 he played the masked killer Jason Voorhees in the horror film Friday the 13th - The Final Chapter , after director Joseph Zito wanted a big man for the role. White reluctantly accepted because he needed the money. White asked that his name be nowhere in the film. However, his name can be seen in the archive material of the film, which was used in Friday the 13th Part VII - Jason in the Bloodlust . White was offered the role of Jason for Friday the 13th - A New Beginning and Friday the 13th Part VI - Jason Lives , but he turned it down. The roles went to stuntman Tom Morga and CJ Graham .
