Friday the 13th (film series)
Friday the 13th is an American horror film series based on the movie slasher 13. Friday by Sean S. Cunningham from the year 1980 back. With eleven parts and a spin-off so far, the film series is the longest-lived horror film series. Together with the Halloween and Nightmare series, it is one of the classics of mainstream horror films. Well-known directors who worked alongside Sean S. Cunningham on the series were Steve Miner (Parts 2 and 3), Joseph Zito (Part 4), Tom McLoughlin (Part 6) and Ronny Yu , who starred with Freddy vs. Jason staged a crossover with the Nightmare series. Harry Manfredini was the composer for most parts of the series , except for Friday the 13th Part VIII - Manhattan Death Trap , Freddy vs. Jason as well as the remake Friday the 13th of 2009.
Plot and characteristics
For the most part, the plot always stays within the same framework: Primarily it is about the psychopathic serial killer Jason Voorhees , who was driven into a lake by the other children and apparently drowned as a child at the Crystal Lake holiday camp . In the first part, Jason's mother takes revenge on all the residents of the camp because they didn't take care of their son. At the end of the film, there is a brief hint that Jason may have survived. The second part is about the fact that Jason survived the agony in the lake and has since lived in a self-made hut in the nearby forest. The characters in the film speculate that he might have seen his mother avenge him and end up being judged himself. In the second part, Jason appears with a white sack pulled over his head. At the time when part 2 was shown in the cinemas, the film “ The Elephant Man ” was also topical - a drama in which the main character has a misshapen face and therefore carries a white sack over his head. Thus there was an unintended commonality between the two characters. However, the makers of Friday the 13th didn't want a horror character like Jason Voorhees to recall a serious story. It was therefore agreed that Jason needed a different mask for the third part. After much deliberation, the decision was made to go for a hockey mask, which became Jason's trademark. After Tommy Jarvis ( Corey Feldman ) killed Jason in the fourth part, they tried to break out of the old pattern in the fifth part and start the series again without Jason. Since this idea was mostly not well received by the fans, Jason was back from part 6.
Approval in Germany
Almost all parts of Friday the 13th received a rejection from the FSK . Only the crossover Freddy vs. Jason and the remake of the first part received no youth approval from the FSK , so they could not be indexed. All other parts were only allowed through with an SPIO / JK approval and were indexed in Germany in the respective uncut versions until August / September 2009 . Part 3 was also confiscated nationwide until June 2016 , part 4 until 2017. In August 2009, the second part was finally removed from the index , and parts 5–8 followed in September 2009. So the first part , Jason Goes to Hell - Die Endabrechnung and Jason X remain on the index. A few weeks after the index deletion of the second part , the FSK decided, after re-examining the unabridged version of the film, for the first time in the history of Friday the 13th to release it from 16. In October 2009, the uncut versions of part 5 and part 8 followed Re-examination with repeated approval from 16 years of age, while Part 6 and Part 7 were not approved for young people (FSK 18). Parts 3 (FSK 16) and 4 (FSK 18) have now been approved by the FSK without any editing requirements.
Different cuts
Almost all German Friday the 13th DVDs of the Widescreen Collection by Paramount Pictures and Jason X are slightly defused R-rated versions. Only part 1 and part 9 are based on the completely uncut unrated version, whereby the missing 2.5 minutes of the unrated version of the original R-rated version were added to the uncut long version of the DVD. The unrated versions of parts 2–8 and 10 have not yet been officially released. However, there are various bootlegs on which the cut scenes in poor quality from the original workprint were added to the original R-rated versions. For a long time, only the R-rated version of the first part, shortened by about ten seconds, was in circulation in the USA. That changed with the re-release of the DVD and Blu-ray of the film on February 3, 2009 at the start of the remake. For the first time the completely uncut version (unrated) of the film was released in the United States , which, unlike there in Germany, had been officially released a long time before.
Television series
The television series Erben des Fluchs (1987–1990) was originally titled Friday the 13th: The Series , but otherwise had no relation to the film series. Another series was created in 2014 from an idea by illustrators Bill Basso and Jordu Schell .
particularities
Jason's ice hockey mask also appears in various films, including a. in Bad Reputation (2005) as well as in various computer games such as B. Fallout 3 . On the cover of the 1986 maxi single He’s Back (The Man Behind the Mask) by Alice Cooper this half of Jason's mask is held in front of his face. The song was part of the soundtrack album for Friday the 13th Part VI - Jason Lives and the movie's theme song.
Movies
Remake
Another Friday the 13th film was released in German cinemas on February 13, 2009. Marcus Nispel ( Pathfinder , Michael Bay's Texas Chainsaw Massacre ) served as director and Michael Bay produced the film with his production company Platinum Dunes . Both were already involved as a duo in the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) entitled Michael Bay's Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003). This twelfth part of the film series retells the story of the main character Jason Voorhees. It is not actually a continuation of the film series, but a reinterpretation of the film idea from 1980 and does not have the same content as the original version.

Contrary to the original version, there are no murder scenes in the version translated into German; all protagonists "survive" the events (or simply disappear from the plot). Sparkplug Press published the e-book Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th on Friday April 13th, 2012 , which tells the story of the film series.
