Fear Street

Fear Street is the title of a series of children's books by the American writer RL Stine . The novels and audio books, mostly assigned to the genres of horror / thriller / crime , are mostly set in the fictional American town of Shadyside and are about young people who live in Fear Street or have friends who live there. A characteristic of the stories is that they are mostly about groups of young people, but there is only one real protagonist. In the course of the story, his friends or acquaintances often die, but not himself. To date, around 80 million volumes have been sold worldwide, making Fear Street one of the most successful book series for young adults.

The first volume in the series appeared in 1989 with The New Girl . Since then, around 160 books have been published in original English editions, and so far 82 have been translated into German (as of 2013). The German editions were published by Loewe Verlag . The novels were translated by various editors, most often by Johanna Ellsworth and Sabine Tandetzke. In the course of time the publisher published a number of stories under different titles, which are given in the list below.

In the English original, in addition to the classic Fear Street series with 51 volumes, numerous volumes were also published in other “side series”, including New Fear Street , Fear Street Super Chiller , Fear Street Sagas or Fear Street Seniors . Another is the series "Fear Street Witching Hour", in the original Ghosts of Fear Street . In contrast to the actual Fear Street series, there are more supernatural figures such as ghosts and monsters (fantasy horror). Most of the books in the Geisterstunde series were also written by other authors, not by Stine herself. This is also stated on the first pages of the book, told by ... similar to the books of the three ??? .

Fear Street audiobooks have also been available since 2008 . So far, Europe has published the consequences of risk - it was just a game , as well as the test of courage - when horror comes true , wrongly connected - the killer is on the phone and murderous claws - death comes on quiet paws . The audio books are produced by the radio play publisher Lausch - Fantastic Radio Play .

Furthermore, the respective "sub-series" is indicated (e.g. Fear Street Sagas ) within which the respective title appeared, as well as the year of publication. The titles of the German translations (if available) as well as their year of publication and any new edition titles are also given. In the case of Ghosts of Fear Street , it should be noted that some volumes in German-speaking countries were previously published under different titles in the Shadow World series. Between 1991 and 1998 13 books were published under the label Fear Street Super Chiller . These are not very different from the titles in the main series; however, they are more extensive and are divided into sections. In addition, the action often takes place on holidays.

Fear Street Sagas

Fear Street Sagas continues the prequel trilogy The Fear Street Saga . These books are mostly about a member of the Fear family. Unlike other titles, these books are more brutal and violent.

The latter two titles were advertised and planned, but they were never written and published. The author confirmed this on his official Twitter page.
