Friday the 13th Part VI - Jason is alive

Friday the 13th - A New Beginning (alternative title Friday the 13th - 5th part ) is an American horror film from 1985 by Danny Steinmann . The film is the fifth part of the horror film series Friday the 13th.

action

Right at the beginning of the film, a wild rush through a forest-like area, unknown to the viewer, begins. After a few seconds you can see the boy Tommy, who is already known from the previous part. However, he does not run away from anything, but has a certain goal in mind, which he is now facing: The grave of Jason, who was killed in the head in the last part by a machete. A short time after the boy has reached the resting place of the notorious murderer, Tommy hears two voices approaching and hurriedly hides in the nearby bushes. Two young men with shovels appear in the picture, who are being watched by little Tommy as they set about digging up the dead killer. After both men have broken the wooden lid of the coffin, Jason can be seen wearing his famous hockey mask. Note: the supposedly dead Jason. Because the latter does not hesitate to stab the two young "troublemakers" with his machete lying in the grave. Jason himself, obviously awake again, climbs out of his grave and walks calmly towards the frightened Tommy, who is still standing in the bushes and has observed everything.

However, just a few moments after this introductory scene, it becomes clear that it was just a dream of the now grown-up Tommy, who had finally defeated Jason in the last part. Now the young man suffers from psychological problems and decides to do group therapy in an institution for adolescents. But even there it doesn't take long until the first death occurs: After one day the aggressive Victor freaks out and kills his roommate Joey with an ax, more and more murdered people are found near the home. When a masked killer shows up at the home one night and begins murdering the residents one by one, Tommy wonders if Jason is actually back. The caregiver Pam, little Reggie and Tommy escape the mass murderer and flee to the barn of the home, where a bitter fight breaks out in the attic. They manage to push the perpetrator out of the opening from above. It lands in the steel thorns of a harrow that lies on the ground below. When they see the ice hockey mask lying next to him, they recognize the real killer: it's Roy, a paramedic who had to put his own son (Joey) in the body bag at the crime scene. Tommy ends up in the hospital where he is supposed to recover from this trauma. When he sees Jason's illusion in front of him, he takes the ice hockey mask out of the drawer and takes a knife. When Pam comes into the room shortly afterwards to check on him, Tommy stands behind her with his mask on and his knife raised.

background

After Jason had denied his "last chapter", it was decided to give the series a new life with a new concept. From now on, the series should produce a new culprit in every film on Friday the 13th . However, this was not well received by fans of the series, which is why Jason stars again in the following film.

Reviews

Not only was the response of the critics to Rotten Tomatoes with a rating of 16% worse than in the previous part, especially the ratings of the users in the Internet Movie Database of only 4.8 out of 10 possible points testify to significantly lower enthusiasm of fans.

The lexicon of international films wrote that the "bestial" murders are "played out in a horror-like manner" by the film.

Others

  • Corey Feldman was supposed to continue his role from the last part, but he was busy filming The Goonies at the time. He only appears as a cameo .
  • The film grossed 21 million in the US dollar one.
  • The mask Jason wears when he is played by the paramedic Roy is different from the one Jason wears when Tommy hallucinates or dreams of him. Roy's mask has two blue stripes, while the other is the same as in the previous films (with an upside-down red triangle between the eyes and an incision on the top left). A third version of the mask, with different breathing holes and without a print, can be seen on the movie poster. However, this mask was never used in the films.
  • The film was removed from the list of media harmful to minors in September 2009 by the Federal Testing Office for media harmful to minors.
  • After the list was deleted, the FSK approved it from the age of 16.
