Adrienne King (born July 21, 1960 in Oyster Bay , New York ) is an American actress . She was best known for her role in the first two films of the Friday 13th series.

Youth and Beginnings

Adrienne King was born on Long Island in the US state of New York. Her British mother was originally from Liverpool . She was seen in a commercial for the first time at the age of six months. In 1965 she appeared as a child actress in an episode of the Hallmark Hall of Fame television program in a minor supporting role. This sparked King's interest in acting and encouraged her to pursue this hobby further. She was featured in commercials throughout her youth. In addition, the young King also appeared as a child actress in various plays (regional and off-Broadway productions).

As a teenager, King began auditioning for film roles and was soon accepted at the drama school of Bill Esper, who had in turn studied at Sanford Meisner , in New York City . King played two first minor supporting roles as a dancer in the two musical films Saturday Night Fever (1977) and Hair (1979), although her name was not mentioned in the respective end credits. In 1977 she also took on another supporting role in the film production Between the Lines . At the same time, King was studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan . After appearing in other commercials, she began to take on small roles in soap operas .

Later career

1979 King was from an acquaintance, who earlier in an advertisement for Burger King had seen, to the director Sean S. Cunningham taught that at this time looking for a suitable actress for the female lead in his planned horror movie Friday the 13th . was. King took over the part of Alice Hardy , who was the only one who survived the massacre at the end of the film. The flick was a great success and is still one of the best-known genre classics. In 1981, King returned for the sequel Friday the 13th - Jason returns one more time in the role of Alice Hardy . However, her appearance in the second part was only short, as her character is killed at the beginning of the film.

However, this role was to have serious after-effects in the private sphere for the actress: After the release of the first film, the Friday of the 13th series began to pursue an unknown stalker King. After the man had observed her over a long period of time and took various photos of her, he finally broke into her New York apartment and defaced several of King's handicrafts there, which, since her studies at the Fashion Institute of Technology , has been artistic as well as acting had become active. Although the stalker was caught afterwards and sentenced to prison, King was so traumatized by the events that she largely withdrew from the public. Her acting career was coming to an end at this point; she was no longer offered any roles. Only in Ivan Reitman's Ghostbusters - Die Geisterjäger was she able to work as a stunt double in 1984 through the mediation of an acquaintance who was involved in the shooting .

King then left New York and moved to London , where she began a new training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art . There she took the subjects of dance and synchronization . After graduating from RADA, King moved back to the US and settled in Los Angeles . She then found a new job in synchronizing. Among other things, King was involved in the setting of well-known films such as The Man Without a Face (1993), Wolf - Das Tier im Manne (1994), Jerry Maguire - Game of Life (1996) and Titanic (1997). King later said that synchronizing had "saved her from her misery". In 2009 King took on a role in the horror film Psychic Experiment and was seen as an actress in front of the camera for the first time in 27 years. 2012 followed another role in The Butterfly Room . In this film, King played alongside fellow actress Heather Langenkamp , who in turn had become known for the female lead in three films in the Nightmare series.
