Ronny Yu

Ronny Yu ( Chinese  于 仁 泰 , Pinyin Yú Réntài , Jyutping Jyu 4 Jan 4 taai 3 , Cantonese  Yu Yan-Tai , * 1950 in Hong Kong ) is a Chinese director , film producer and screenwriter .

He has worked in Hollywood since the mid-1990s, having previously directed fifteen Hong Kong films . He graduated from Ohio University with a degree in business management. During his studies, he moved to the University of California to study in the department of film. After graduating, he decided to work as a filmmaker.

In Hong Kong he shot with stars such as Leslie Cheung , Chow Yun-Fat , Orphan Lee , Ricky Hui , Kent Cheng , Jet Li and Brandon Lee . In America with horror icons like Robert Englund , Brad Dourif and Kane Hodder , or cult actors like Samuel L. Jackson , Robert Carlyle and John Ritter .

Yu brought with Chucky and his bride as well as Freddy vs. Jason got three of the great horror movie icons back on the big screen.

With Fearless from 2006, Yu returned to Hong Kong.
