Ricky Hui

Ricky HUI Kwoon-Ying ( chin.許冠英 / 许冠英Pinyin Xǔ Guànyīng Jyutping Heoi2 Gun3jing1; born August 3, 1946 in Guangzhou , Panyu , China ; † November 8, 2011 in Kowloon , Hong Kong ) was a Chinese film actor . He appeared with his two brothers Michael and Sam in several successful HK comedies of the 1970s and 1980s.

Life

The Hui family moved to Hong Kong in 1950 and settled in what was then the poor area of ​​Diamond Hill. Ricky Hui has four siblings: Samuel Hui, Michael, Stanley and Judy. Art played an important role in the family early on: Ricky's father played the violin and his mother loved Cantonese operas. Ricky Hui worked as a correspondent for the French Press Agency in Hong Kong.

From 1972 to 1976 he made films for the Chinese film company Shaw Brothers . He was most active in the 1970s and 1980s. He worked with directors such as John Woo , Tsui Hark and Jackie Chan , and with many well-known actors, such as B. Lam Ching Ying , Leslie Cheung , Joey Wong , Simon Yam , Jacky Cheung , Richard Ng , Eric Tsang .

With his brothers Sam and Michael he formed the Chinese Marx Brothers . Michael always appeared in the role of the superior and verbal ( Groucho Marx ), Sam was the daredevil and sonny boy of the troupe ( Chico Marx ), Ricky took on the role of ( Harpo Marx ) the battered. Four of her "Mr.Boo" films found some fans in Germany and are now also available on DVD.

Ricky Hui was not only active as an actor, but also as a singer. He recorded seven albums in the 1970s and 1980s. He also wrote some songs for his brother Sam. Ricky also appeared as a guest at his brother's concerts. He also sang in duets with him.

On November 8, 2011, Ricky Hui died of a heart attack at the age of 65.
