Ann Bradford Davis (born May 3, 1926 in Schenectady , New York , † June 1, 2014 in San Antonio , Texas ) was an American actress , best known for her role as the housekeeper in the series Three Girls and Three Boys .

Life

Ann Bradford Davis was the daughter of an electrical engineer and an amateur actress. She graduated from the University of Michigan in the late 1940s where she began studying medicine. Because her twin sister took acting classes there and she took her older brother in the musical Oklahoma! saw their interests changed. So she went to Los Angeles, where her first success was the role of secretary "Schultzy" (aka Charmaine Schultz) in the sitcom The Bob Cummings Show (1955-1959) opposite Robert Cummings . For this role she was nominated four times for the Emmy Award, which she received twice. She later appeared on The John Forsythe Show (1965–1966) in the role of headmistress. She also took care of the troops in Vietnam , Thailand and Korea for the United Service Organizations .

Davis is best known to German audiences for her role as the smart housekeeper Alice Nelson in the series Three Girls and Three Boys (The Brady Bunch) , through which she reached the peak of her career in the 1970s. In some subsequent offshoots , Davis embodied her star role again. In the 1995- based feature film The Brady Family , she played a cameo as a truck driver. Since 1955 she has also worked on several other movies, such as the secretary of Doris Day's main character in A Pajama for Two (1961) and in Die nackte Kanone 33⅓ (1994), where she played herself.

She also played theater, including in the plays " Funny Girl " and " Arsenic and lace bonnet " (English original title: Arsenic and Odd Lace). Davis has also had several guest starring roles, and in addition to acting, has also worked in advertising for vehicles and rice .

Davis last lived in a condominium in San Antonio , Texas . She did not retire completely from acting even in old age, so she took part in a number of projects in the Brady series, for example on the 35th anniversary of the creation of this show or on April 22, 2007, when she was involved other cast members received the “TV Land Pop Culture Award”, the award from a cable broadcaster, and received a standing ovation.
