Keith Joseph Michell (born December 1, 1926 in Adelaide , South Australia , † November 20, 2015 in London ) was an Australian actor .
Life
Keith Michell made his theater debut in 1947. In 1951 he went to London , where he took part in various plays, including adaptations of Don Quixote . In 1970 he made his first major appearance as Henry VIII in The Six Wives of Henry VIII . From 1974 to 1977 he was the senior director at the Chichester Festival Theater. He made several appearances on American television in the crime series Murder Is Her Hobby , alongside Angela Lansbury . He became known to a wide audience in 1987 when he played the lead role of the explorer James Cook in the four-part television production Wind und Sterne .
Keith Michell was married to the actress Jeanette Sterke and had two children with her, including the actress Helena Michell. The theater in Port Pirie , where he grew up, is named after him. He died on November 20, 2015 at the age of 88 at his Hamstead home .
