Hintersee is a municipality in the Salzburger Land in the Salzburg-Umgebung district in Austria with 468 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).
geography
The community is located in Flachgau in the Salzburg region , on the Tauglbach (Lämmerbach) , which takes in the Ladenbach here . The community belongs to the judicial district of Thalgau .
Community structure
The municipality includes the following two localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):
- Hintersee (271) including Anzenbergalm, Eben, Langreith, Leiten, Oberasch, Reit and Sommerau
- Lämmerbach (197) including Aschau, Eckl, Mühlbauer, Unterzahl and Vordergrubenbach
The community consists of the cadastral communities Hintersee and Lämmerbach.
history
It was first mentioned in a document in 700 in a donation from Duke Theudebert of Bavaria . From 1612 until the end of the Salzburg archbishopric in 1803, Hintersee was owned by the Salzburg cathedral chapter . Today's community was established in 1848.

Economy and Infrastructure
Ski Area
In Hintersee there is also part of the Gaißau-Hintersee ski area with 9 lifts (3 chair lifts, 6 drag lifts) and 40 km of groomed slopes . Currently (01/20) the ski area is not prepared. Work is underway to reopen next 20/21 season.
