Gaißau-Hintersee ski area
The Salzburg ski area Gaißau-Hintersee is located south of the city of Salzburg in the Osterhorn group with parts of the communities Krispl and Hintersee . At the moment (end of 2019), its economic survival is questionable.

The ski area is located 25 kilometers south of Salzburg. The sports area is between 750 meters and 1567 meters above sea level and is accessed by 9 lifts. It extends over the Spielbergalm area and has six tow lifts as well as a four-seater chairlift, a three-seater chairlift and a two-seater chairlift.
The 40 prepared kilometers of slopes of all levels of difficulty run along the mountain slopes of Gaißau and Hintersee . The ski area only has natural snow.
history
The ski swing, the connection between the towns of Gaißau and Hintersee, was built in 1977. Back then, Hintersee had the first three-seater chairlift in the province of Salzburg. In 2010 the Bergbahnen Saalbach Hinterglemm Ges.mbH sold the ski area due to the upcoming investment. At the end of 2016, the now Chinese majority owner took over the management. At this point it was already known that the ski area was in financial difficulties. On January 13, 2017, the operating company filed for bankruptcy. Despite bankruptcy, the ski area was able to continue operating for the 2016/17 season. Bankruptcy proceedings are planned for the end of 2019, but the neighboring communities want to save the ski area with support from the State of Salzburg.
