history
Until the 13th century, the area around Gaißau was hunting and grazing land. Gaißau was first mentioned as Gaizzouwe in 1241 after the area was settled in the High Middle Ages as part of the Bavarian conquest . The Good Gaißau , which was sold to the Salzburg Cathedral Chapter 1245 is later awarded , in 1299 appears Heinrich von Gutrat as a fief taker of the Bailiwick on.
In 1393 there is a record describing an estate under the Chrispel in the parish of Chuchl . The name Krispl appears here for the first time, but its linguistic meaning has not yet been clarified. In 1594 a simple mountain church "on the Krispeln" is mentioned in a document. Ecclesiastically, Krispl belonged to the mother church Kuchl and was raised to a vicariate in 1731. Krispl has been an independent parish since 1859. The church from the 15th century was significantly changed in 1759, whereby a vault was also installed.
Culture, sport and social issues
Gaißau is the seat of the Krispl Volunteer Fire Brigade, the Krispl-Gaißau traditional costume band and the USV Krispl-Gaißau sports club. There is also a local theater group. As educational institutions there is a kindergarten and a primary school in the village.
The Gaißau -Hintersee ski area and the Spielbergalm recreation area are located in Gaißau . The goals are advertised by the Krispl-Gaißau tourism association, which is also located here. However, since the main Chinese owner of the lift stopped paying the lease for a long time, several landowners filed for bankruptcy against the lift operator at the end of October 2019. As of December 2, 2019, there was no contact with the main Chinese shareholder, and there are no takeover bids from interested parties. The lifts no longer have technical permits and the contracts for the ski slopes have been terminated. The bankruptcy proceedings in court are planned for January 2020. The affected communities Gaißau and Hintersee want to save the ski area and are trying to find a solution with the support of the State of Salzburg.
