The Salzburg Geographical Information System (SAGIS) is the geographical information system of the Office of Government of Salzburg . The spatial data infrastructure unit belongs to Department 10 - Housing and Spatial Planning. Landesinformatik fulfills the tasks of hardware and software support, application development and server and network operations.

It was founded in 1987. An essential starting point was the administrative agreement between the State of Salzburg and the Federal Office for Metrology and Surveying (BEV) from 1988 for the development of the digital cadastral map (DKM) in the State of Salzburg. For this purpose, the previously analogue “spatial planning register” (SAROK) should be digitized. In 1988 the "SAGIS headquarters" was set up in the official building of the Salzburg state government on Michael-Pacher-Strasse.

The data are processed by the employees of SAGIS, but also other departments, through their own collection of basic data, and through the acquisition of external data such as B. the digital cadastral map and the Austria map from BEV expanded.

Important focal points of the last ten years have been:

  • The further expansion of the basic database, including address data, color orthophotos of the entire country, high-precision altitude data based on "Airborne Laser Scanning" (ALS)
  • Integration into the WWW by providing a web GIS
  • Establishment of a structured spatial data infrastructure

Web GIS

In 2002, the first option to access the SAGIS basic data was created via the Internet. In March 2005, GIS-Online 2 was introduced, which provides an easily accessible and free option (via web browser) for the state administration (via the intranet) as well as (via the Internet) for the public to access a wide range of spatial data and to create maps. An improved version was completed in February 2011, which enabled access to over 200 data layers, expanded navigation and search functions as well as detailed information on individual objects, measuring and drawing tools and expanded printing options.

INSPIRE

In 2007 the EU issued a directive on the EU-wide uniform management, documentation, accessibility and use of spatial data and the "INSPIRE directive" for the establishment of a corresponding spatial data infrastructure in the member states. In Salzburg, the legal basis was anchored in 2011 in the law on the obligation to provide information, further use of documents, data protection, state statistics and spatial data infrastructure. The regional planning and SAGIS departments were given the task of coordinating the state level. A phased implementation by 2019 is planned. In this context, the “INSPIRE data” of the state should be made available by means of defined information services.
