Gideon Singer
Gideon Singer (born June 29, 1926 in Brno , Czechoslovakia , † May 11, 2015 in Tel Aviv ) was an Israeli - Austrian actor .
Life
Born as Harry Singer, he learned violin and singing as a child . In 1941 he fled with his family via Vienna to join the League of Nations mandate for Palestine . In Israel he learned the profession of diamond cutter , but as a singer he soon found his way to the stage. With three friends (Shlomo Bar, Reuven Shefer and Jacob Ben-Sira) he founded the quartet "Reviyat Mo'adon Ha-Theatron", which celebrated great success in Israel.
His acting talent did not go undiscovered for long either. At first he got small extras, but soon leading roles in theater and in film, including The Flying Camel and The Blue Milk Canal (1970) by Ephraim Kishon .
In the 1970s he was by Rolf Kutschera brought to Vienna alternating with Josef Meinrad to Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha to play. Gideon Singer also played the role in Tel Aviv and on Broadway . After numerous other invitations, Vienna became his second home. Felix Dvorak brought him to his festivals in Berndorf, Mödling and Weitra, where he excelled in pieces by Feydeau and Hofmannsthal, among others.
From 1986 to 2014 he worked at the Vienna Theater in der Josefstadt , of which he became an honorary member in 1996. In total, he was on the stage of the Josefstadt and the Wiener Kammerspiele in around 3700 performances . He lived in Vienna until the end and was married to Shira Singer since 2005.
