- April 20 : Under the title Olympia published Leni Riefenstahl a two-part documentary about the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin. The film was subsequently widely praised as an aesthetic masterpiece, but it was also criticized for its propagandistic and ideological elements. For her work, Riefenstahl received the German National Film Prize 1937/38, the Coppa Mussolini , an Olympic gold medal from the International Olympic Committee and the Kinema Jumpō Prize in imperialist Japan.
- August 19 : The comedy film Blockheads by Laurel and Hardy is released and received positive reviews.
- September 21 : The crime film Blown Traces by Veit Harlan with Kristina Söderbaum and Frits van Dongen, which has been banned from young people, premieres in Berlin's Gloria-Palast. The script is based on the radio play of the same name by Hans Rothe .
- October 7 : The Lady Vanishes ( The Lady Vanishes ), a comedy thriller by Alfred Hitchcock with Margaret Lockwood and Michael Redgrave , will be premiered in London. Audiences and critics are equally enthusiastic about the film.
- November: The German Film Academy Babelsberg starts its work.
