Ron Ely (born June 21, 1938 in Hereford , Texas ; actually Ronald Pierce Ely ) is an American actor .

Life

Ely began filming in the 1950s, but was only cast in minor roles until the late 1960s. The success began when Ely was hired to play the role of Tarzan . He was the 15th Tarzan in film history and played this role in the Tarzan television series, which is also very popular in Germany, for 57 episodes, the double episodes of which were also evaluated as feature films. He had further success in Germany in 1972 with the Italo-Western comedy 100 Fists and an Our Father . The film was not a success in Germany because of its class, but rather because of the popularity at the time Elys and his colleague Uschi Glas , who played the leading female role in this film. In 1972 Ely received the Golden Bravo Otto from the German youth magazine BRAVO in a readers' poll .

In 1975 Ely was the star in the last film production by producer George Pal , Doc Savage - The Man of Bronze , the only film adaptation of the famous superhero book series to date. In the next few years, however, the success of Ron Ely ebbed and he was rarely seen in movies, but appeared increasingly as a guest in various television series, such as Love Boat , Matt Houston , Wonder Woman , Hotel , Fantasy Island , Superboy (as an adult Superman ) or Renegade - merciless hunt . In the series Seahunt (1987) Ely played the role of Mike Nelson , which alludes to the character of the same name in the television series Adventure Under Water (1958) and which was played by Lloyd Bridges . In a new edition of Edgar Rice Burroughs stories under the title Tarzán (1992) Ely played again in an episode, but this time no longer as the eponymous character, but only in a supporting role as Gordon Shaw .

In the mid-1990s, Ely had some success as a writer with a short-lived mystery series about the detective Jake Sands in the novels "Night Shadows" and "East Beach". Another novel by Elys has not yet been published because he refused to reduce the length of 1250 pages to an "acceptable" level. Ely has also recorded abridged audiobook readings from his "Jake Sands" novels.

Ely hosted the Miss America beauty contest in 1981 and 1982 .

In 1984 Ely married Valerie Lundeen, a former beauty queen from Florida, for the second time. The couple had three children: daughters Kirsten and Kaitland and son Cameron. On October 15, 2019, Ely's 62-year-old wife was stabbed to death by her son Cameron on her property in the Hope Ranch residential area on the Pacific coast of Santa Barbara . Cameron was shot dead by the police while resisting the officers.
