José Rafael Moneo Vallés (born May 9, 1937 in Tudela , Navarra ) is a Spanish architect . His work can be assigned to critical regionalism .

biography

After studying at the Technical College of Architecture in Madrid, Moneo worked for the Danish architect Jørn Utzon , the architect of the Sydney Opera House . Then a two-year scholarship brought him to the Spanish Academy in Rome. After his return to Spain, Moneo began teaching in Madrid (1966–70) and later in Barcelona (1970–80). He has also taught at various universities in the USA, France and Switzerland. He has been running his own architecture office in Madrid since 1973.
