The Doubtful Ziest ( Stachys × ambigua ) is a hybrid of the genus Stachys ( Stachys ) in the family of Labiatae (Lamiaceae). It was created from a hybrid of the forest ziest ( Stachys sylvatica ) and the swamp ziest ( Stachys palustris ).

features

The Doubtful Ziest is a deciduous, perennial, herbaceous geophyte that reaches heights of 30 to 100 centimeters. It can reproduce vegetatively with underground runners. The plant smells unpleasant. The stem is usually only slightly hairy. The upper leaves are usually sessile. The oblong-egg-shaped to eilanzettliche leaf blade is two to four times as long as it is wide and a total of between 2 and 5 centimeters wide. The petiole is approximately 0.5 to 1 centimeter long, which is 1/10 to 1/6 the length of the leaf blade. The petals are bright purple. The ripe Klaus fruits are only very rarely developed.

Flowering time is from June to September. It is pollinated by insects. If fruits are formed, glue or Velcro spreads.

Occurrence

The Doubtful Ziest grows in damp, disturbed locations and banks. In Germany it is probably to be found scattered, there is evidence from, for example, North Rhine-Westphalia. It also occurs without the parent species.
