Dan Vadis (actually Constantine Daniel Vafiadis ; * 3. January 1938 in Shanghai , China ; † 11. June 1987 in Lancaster , California ) was an American bodybuilder and actor .

After serving in the army as a seaman in the United States Navy , the Greek-born Vadis, like his colleagues Gordon Mitchell and Mickey Hargitay, was discovered for the film through Mae West's muscle man show.

From 1962 on, Vadis first appeared in Italian peplums , after which he was mostly villains in crime novels or spaghetti westerns . After 16 European films, his friendship with Clint Eastwood also allowed him to gain a foothold in Hollywood's film business , where he appeared in a number of his films. The end of his career was an unsuccessful attempt to revive the Hercules films.

Vadis died in his car from an apparently unintentional drug overdose.
