Vultures know no mercy (Original title: Cahill United States Marshal ) is an American western from 1973 with John Wayne in the lead role. The film was shot from November 13, 1972 to January 1973, near the western town of La Joya , in the Mexican state of Durango and was released on July 11, 1973 by Warner Bros. in American cinemas. The American Batjac Productions was responsible for the production. In the Federal Republic of Germany, the film was released on November 1, 1973 by the Warner Bros. film distributor. Barney Slater provided the story base.

Widowed US Marshal JD Cahill, one of the most feared marshals in the US, has jailed many outlaws , but he has a problem raising his sons. When Cahill pursues a gang of crooks, Abe Fraser seduces Cahill's sons, 17-year-old Danny and 12-year-old Billy Joe, into a bank robbery that kills the sheriff and his deputy. Danny and Billy Joe quickly realize that they are in a fix without their father's help. Cahill visits the tracker Lightfoot to follow his sons at every turn. Cahill shoots Fraser and accomplices, and his sons hope for a mild sentence.
