Robert L. Simpson

Robert L. Simpson (born July 31, 1910 in St. Louis , Missouri , † June 1977 in San Bernardino , California ) was an American film editor .

Life

Robert L. Simpson began his career as an editor for Paramount Pictures in 1935 . In the late 1930s he moved to 20th Century Fox , where he was employed for more than 35 years. By 1989 he was responsible for the film editing of over 100 productions . Twice he also worked with director John Ford together, so for Drums Along the Mohawk ( Drums Along the Mohawk , 1939) and The Grapes of Wrath ( The Grapes of Wrath , 1940). For the latter film, Simpson received an Oscar nomination for Best Editing in 1941 . However, he was defeated by Anne Bauchens and her work for The Scarlet Riders ( North West Mounted Police , 1940). Other films that Simpson worked on as editor were The King and I ( The King and I , 1956) with Deborah Kerr , A Woman Who Knows Everything ( Desk Set , 1957) with Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, and the western The Undefeated ( The Undefeated , 1969) with John Wayne .
