Dan Piraro
Daniel Charles Piraro (* 1958 in Kansas City (Missouri) ) is an American cartoonist .
Piraro grew up in Tulsa , Oklahoma , where he attended high school . He then lived in Dallas , Texas for many years and currently lives in Brooklyn , New York City . Since 1985 his cartoon series Bizarro has been published in several hundred newspapers. The drawings thematize “normal” life in a surreal, bizarre guise. Piraro mostly hides small, symbolic objects in his cartoons: an eyeball ( the eye of the beholder ), a UFO ( the UFO of possibility ) or a fishtail ( the fish of humility ). Piraro became a vegan around 2002 . This fact is also visible in his work. Vegan topics such as animal rights or cruelty to animals keep cropping up.
Bizarro cartoons were printed in Germany in 2004 and 2005 in the Titanic . The web.de web portal has been publishing German-language bizarro cartoons on a regular basis since 2011.
