Paul Fix (born January 13, 1901 in Dobbs Ferry , New York , † October 14, 1983 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American theater, television and film actor and screenwriter . From 1925 to 1981, the versatile supporting actor had over 330 film and television appearances.

life and career

Paul Fix was born in 1901 as the son of master brewer Wilhelm Fix and his wife Louise Walz in a small town near New York. The parents were both German immigrants. In 1918, Paul Fix joined the Navy towards the end of World War I , after which he became an actor. He first performed in local theaters in New York before moving to Hollywood in the mid-1920s . He made his first film appearance in 1925 in the film The Perfect Clown . Well over 300 film appearances followed, making him one of the busiest actors of his generation. He was directed by Frank Borzage in a total of ten films over the decades , for example in The Seventh Commandment (1929) and in Ladies Love Brutes (1930). The versatile actor mostly played supporting roles at the side of big stars, for example as the father of Elizabeth Taylor in George Stevens ' western epic Giganten (1956) and as judge Taylor alongside Gregory Peck in the literary film Who disturbs the nightingale (1962) based on Harper Lee 's novel of the same name . Private life

Paul Fix died of kidney failure in 1983 at the age of 82 . He was married twice; from 1922 to her divorce in 1945 with Frances Harvey and from 1949 to her death in 1979 with Beverly Pratt. From the first marriage he had the daughter Marilyn (1925-2017), who the actor Harry Carey jr. got married.
