action
Richard Palmer Grant Dorcy is a US Army soldier . He is called "Canary" and is stationed in Hawaii . He often has disagreements with his supervisor, Sergeant Scrapper Thornhill. Richard struggles with receiving and obeying orders, but he doesn't want to pursue an officer career. When General Fitts arrives on the island, Dick is assigned to drive his daughter Kit to the reception. The two of them, stimulated by the romantic moonlight, do not drive to the reception, but visit a Lūʻau festival held by the locals. There they are caught in a deep embrace by Lieutenant Biddle, who himself is in love with Kit, who rebukes Richard for damaging Kit's reputation.
Richard decides to leave the army. The sergeant asks Kit to clear things up. In order to keep Richard from acknowledging the service, she tells him that she doesn't love him, the hug was a spontaneous impulse. Richard now feels spurred to catch up with Lieutenant Biddle and, to Thornhill's relief, enrolls at West Point Military Academy . General Fitts is the chief administrative officer for Richard's class.
The other soldiers are drawn to Kit, but Richard remains cold towards her. When he learns that Kit is attending the theater performance for an academy celebration for which he has written the script, he rewrites the story of the play. He has a female general appear to send a message to Kit. After the first rehearsal, Kit takes him for a walk on the "Flirtation Walk" and tries to tell him her true feelings. But Richard is too excited to listen to her. Back on stage, he kisses her during a love scene while she tells him that she loves him.
General Fitts announces his daughter's engagement to Lieutenant Biddle. The irritated Richard goes to Kit after the tattoo to talk her out of the wedding. He is caught and tries to protect Kit's reputation by leaving the academy. Thornhill arrives at West Point and is surprised by Richard's plan. But when Biddle informs him that his resignation has been rejected. Kit also sent him the engagement ring back. Richard is now a lucky man to graduate from academia with Kit by his side.
