action

The two young French geologists Robert and Pierre are in a helicopter with the pilot John on the way to Cairo. During the flight over the Sahara they see a caravan below them , which is moving towards the forbidden terrain of the French nuclear test site. While trying to warn the Arabs, they get caught in a sandstorm that knocks the helicopter to the ground. After the geologists have discovered a rich uranium deposit in the rocks and want to acquire the mining rights from the Arabs, they are abruptly rejected and left alone, although they had only recently saved the life of the head of the caravan.

The next day, Robert, Pierre and John are attacked by nomads and dragged as prisoners on mysterious paths before the throne of a sheikh , in which they recognize the leader of yesterday's caravan. The sheikh tells them that they are in the realm of Atlantis and that they are being held for nuclear espionage. Then the Europeans are led into a huge underground hall in which there is a magnificent temple. While John and Pierre are thrown into dungeon, Robert is led by the Arab Tarath into the temple in front of the throne of a beautiful woman. It is Antinea, the mistress of Atlantis, who immediately lets Robert's heart aflame for her. But she too is quite taken with the stranger.

While trying to escape from the dungeon, John and Pierre are overwhelmed by the guards. The pilot is tortured to death in a torture chamber and then transformed into a marble statue under mystical rites. Pierre has to go back to the dungeon. After Robert realizes the fate that has befallen John, he charges Antinea with murder. She gets so angry about this that she banishes Robert to the uranium mine as a slave . There, the battered creatures instigate a rebellion, which is bloodily suppressed by the guards. Robert is dragged again to the throne of the ruler by Antinea's bodyguard , who begs the geologist to love her. But he rejects her request. In revenge, Antinea hypnotizes Pierre and forces him to kill his friend.

Because Antinea has not been able to win Robert's love, she decides to let her empire go under with a large atomic explosion . Pierre manages to flee from Atlantis just in time, together with Antinea's lady-in-waiting Zinah, with whom he has since fallen in love. Shortly afterwards, the two of them see a huge mushroom cloud rising near them and are amazed that they are still alive.

criticism

The lexicon of international films succinctly describes the strip as "partly bloody, partly half-naked nonsense".
