Enzo Serafin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vincenzo "Enzo" Serafin (born April 16, 1912 in Venice , † December 27, 1995 in Rome ) was an Italian cameraman .

Live and act

Serafin had completed his training in the second half of the 1930s in Rome, Paris (where he worked in a film laboratory) and Berlin (where he took camera courses at the film academy). When the Second World War broke out back in Italy, further training in Antonio Bragaglia's film laboratories followed in Cinecittà . After a short time as a camera assistant, Serafin advanced to become a simple cameraman in the early 1940s. In 1942 he established himself as chief cameraman. When the fascist Mussolini government was overthrown the following year , Serafin was in Spain filming (“ Piruetas juveniles ”).

In 1950 Serafin returned to Rome and continued his career in domestic film. During this decade he was still working with two of the leading directors in his country, Michelangelo Antonioni and Roberto Rossellini , but mostly photographed entertainment films without too great artistic pretensions. Serafin has also been hired several times by foreign directors working in Italy. His later works include several spaghetti westerns of the 1960s and the popular US crime television series Your Appearance, Al Mundy .

At the age of 60, Enzo Serafin stopped working as a camera for feature films and from then on devoted himself to documentary film. After his last work, the 1992 film " L'arte del suono ", which dealt with classical violin making in the tradition of the Cremona school , Serafin withdrew into private life at the age of 80.

Award

As early as 1953, Enzo Serafin was awarded the Silver Ribbon for his oeuvre .
