Austria

  • October 21 : The oldest surviving Austrian feature film appears in the cinemas: The miller and his child from the Austro-Hungarian Cinema Industry GmbH with Max Bing in the leading role.
  • November 1st : The Oesterreichisch-Ungarische Kinoindustrie Ges.mbH is renamed Wiener Kunstfilm GmbH , which in the following years becomes the leading Austrian silent film producer.
  • The story of the newsreel in Austria begins when Wiener Kunstfilm first regularly publishes weekly new reports from Vienna and other parts of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. One enters into competition here with the dominant French film companies, which have been active in Austria for years as sales branches but also as newsreel producers. In the German Reich, too, newsreels are produced for the first time .
  • The police are clearing the studio of Johann Schwarzer's Saturn film and thus ending his five-year erotic film productions, which were distributed worldwide and are considered to be the first ordered (i.e. not by traveling cinema owners or private) and the oldest surviving film productions in Austria.
