Joseph Pevney
Joseph Pevney (born September 15, 1911 in New York City , † May 18, 2008 in Palm Desert , California ) was an American film director , actor , producer and screenwriter .
Life
Joseph Pevney began his work in show business in 1924 as a boy soprano. He was an actor on Broadway in the 1930s and 1940s, starring in plays such as Battle Hymn , The World We Make , Native Son and Home of the Brave . After serving in the Army in World War II, he went to Hollywood and starred in several films noir between 1946 and 1950 , including Robert Rossen's Hunt for Millions ( Body and Soul , 1947), which was nominated in three categories for an Oscar and him in the category won "Best Editor" William Keighleys street with no name ( The street with no name , 1948) and Jules Dassin's Thieves 'Highway ( Thieves' Highway , 1949).
Beginning with the crime film Without Scruples (1950), he switched to directing and made over 30 feature films by 1961, including the horror film Behind the Walls of Horror ( The Strange Door ) with Charles Laughton and Boris Karloff , comedies such as Im Zirkus der Drei Manegen ( 3 ring Circus , 1953, with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis ) and Tammy ( Tammy and the Bachelor , 1957) and the Lon Chaney -Biopic the man with 1,000 faces ( man of a Thousand faces , 1957). The director Pevney was not considered a great stylist, although some film critics of the Cahiers du Cinema liked his films, but he was a very reliable director. He was often able to stage ordinary to old-fashioned material in an appealing way and was considered an actor director who attached particular importance to the presentations. He made two of Universal Studios' biggest box office hits of the 1950s, Klar Schiff zum Gefecht and Tammy .
From 1961 Pevney worked almost exclusively as a television director. He has made episodes of numerous television series including Wagon Train , In Love with a Witch ( Bewitched ), The Munsters , On the Run ( The Fugitive ), Laredo , Cobra, Take Over ( Mission: Impossible ), Marcus Welby, MD , The People of the Shiloh Ranch ( The Virginian ), Adam-12 , Bonanza , Fantasy Island , The Incredible Hulk ( The Incredible Hulk ), Detective Rockford - just give us a call ( The Rockford Files ), Our Little Farm ( Little House on the Prairie ) and Trapper John, MD .
He achieved particular fame with his work for the series Raumschiff Enterprise ( Star Trek ), for whose 1st and 2nd season he shot 14 episodes. Some of the episodes directed by Pevney are some of the series' most popular and successful, including Griffin die Geschichte ( The City on the Edge of Forever ), which won the WGA Award , Space Fever ( Amok Time ), The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing ( Wolf in the Fold ), Do you know Tribbles? ( The Trouble with Tribbles ) and Journey to Babel ( Journey to Babel ).

In 1985 Pevney retired and a few years later moved to Palm Desert, where he died in 2008 at the age of 96. In 1942 he married the actress Mitzi Green , with whom he had four children. After Green's death in 1969, Pevney married twice more.
