Kay Walsh

Kay Walsh (born November 15, 1911 in London , † April 16, 2005 ) was a British dancer and actress .

Life

Irish-born Kay Walsh and her sister Peggy grew up with their grandmother in Pimlico . She began her career as a dancer in a revue by Andre Charlot as a chorus dancer. Later she was a solo dancer in New York and Berlin . She also appeared in plays and revues. In 1934 she was discovered by a talent scout and she became an actress. Kay Walsh was one of the UK's leading female actresses in the 1930s and 1940s . In addition, she wrote the script together with Ronald Neame , Cecil McGivern and David LeanMysterious Inheritance (1946) based on the novel Great Expectations by Charles Dickens .

From 1940 to 1949 Walsh was married to director David Lean . She was then married to a Canadian psychologist from 1949 to 1956 .
