Prussian T 2
In the genus T 2 of the Prussian state railways were tank locomotives summarized different design. Some of them came from the predecessor railways of the Prussian State Railways . The Prussian State Railways themselves procured locomotives with the B, B1 and 1B wheel arrangement. A common feature of all types are two coupled driving axles . The locomotives with the B wheel arrangement were mainly intended for shunting, the others for traffic on the Berlin Stadtbahn and branch lines.

The T 2 was a B- wheel arrangement locomotive for shunting at large and medium-sized stations. It was constructed after the T 1 had become too weak for the requirements. Between 1884 and 1889, a total of 67 locomotives of this type were manufactured mainly by Henschel & Sohn for the Prussian State Railways . For this type of construction, a sample sheet based on the standards had also been drawn up. None of these locomotives came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn .

An identical locomotive was procured for the Bremen port railway in 1892. With the takeover of the port railway by the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1930, this was classified as class 88.76 with number 88 7601. Only a little later, however, probably as early as 1931, it was retired.
In the years 1888 to 1892, the LBE procured a total of four locomotives of this type, which the LBE designated as T 1. Two of these locomotives were taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1938 as class 88.70 with the numbers 88 7001 and 7002. These locomotives were even included in the inventory of the Deutsche Reichsbahn and were not taken out of service until 1957. The former 88 7002 had last worn the number 98 7087.
- Marburg circular path
A class T 2 locomotive was bought at the Marburger Kreisbahn . Compared to the original version, it had an enlarged drive wheel diameter and was given the number Marburger Kreisbahn 3 . The locomotive stayed with the Kreisbahn for about five years and then served a company in Braunschweig for a few years .

The T 2 with the 1 B wheel arrangement was a locomotive for the Berlin city, ring road and suburban railway traffic . It was built in series from 1881 onwards, based on a test specimen that Schichau had delivered in 1880. A total of 70 copies were delivered by various manufacturers by 1882.
As a special feature, the locomotives had an exhaust steam condensation device between the cylinders. After the locomotives became too weak for the steadily increasing traffic, many were handed over to other directorates and used there in suburban and branch line traffic. In 1906 54 locomotives were classified as T 2 and 15 as T 4 . None of the locomotives made it to the Deutsche Reichsbahn .

The Prussian State Railways acquired three specimens of the so-called Bavarian Glass Box ( PtL 2/2 ) on a trial basis , from the 1908 version with a jackshaft and an outer cylinder. Two were deployed in Altona , one in Elberfeld . Nothing is known about the fate of the Altona machines. The other machine was taken out of service after an accident in 1917 and handed over to the port railway in Hamm .

The Magdeburg Directorate of the Prussian State Railways was responsible for traffic on the Potsdamer Bahnhof - Wannsee and Potsdam routes. For this purpose, it acquired ten tank locomotives with a B1 wheel arrangement. Some of the locomotives were also used in Thuringia, but then returned to Berlin. In 1899 the locomotives were handed over to the Bromberg, Danzig and Kattowitz offices . Only four of these locomotives saw the change to the class T 2 .

The T 2 (unofficially T 2.1) was a tank locomotive with a B1 wheel arrangement for traffic on the Berlin light rail . The small diameter of the driving wheel should make it easy to start at the many stations of the light rail. A total of 18 T 2.1s were built by Henschel & Sohn in 1884. From 1908 the locomotives were handed over to other directorates, where they were still used in branch line service. They were retired by 1920.

The T 2 / T 3 / T 4 was a tank locomotive with a B1 wheel arrangement for traffic on branch lines. The relatively large diameter of the driving wheel should ensure greater speeds in branch line traffic. This locomotive type was also included in the Prussian standards as sample sheet III 4g , although the Prussian State Railways only had three locomotives built. Henschel & Sohn built the three locomotives in 1895 under the serial numbers 4137 to 4139. The locomotives were put into operation in three different directorates; in 1906, curiously enough, they were grouped into different classes: the first as T 3 Posen 6101 , the second as T 2 Hannover 6083 and the third as T 4 Münster 6451 .
The Kiel-Eckernförde-Flensburg Railway also procured two locomotives of this type from the Actien-Gesellschaft für Lokomotivbau Hohenzollern in 1902 . In contrast to the others, these locomotives had a steam dome and were classified as T 2 after the nationalization of this railway .
The locomotives were retired by 1920.
