Broderick Crawford

William Broderick Crawford (born December 9, 1911 in Philadelphia , † April 26, 1986 in Rancho Mirage , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Broderick Crawford, son of actress Helen Broderick and comedian Lester Crawford (1882-1962), began his career on Broadway and in 1937 went to Hollywood . In the late 1940s and early 1950s, he appeared in a number of film noirs and gangster films . For his performance in The Man Who Wished to Rule (1949), he received the Oscar , the Golden Globe Award and the New York Film Critics Circle Award . In 1955 Crawford starred alongside Giulietta Masina in the film Die Schwindler (Il Bidone) by Federico Fellini . In 1960 he received two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .

Following his divorce from Joan Tabor, Crawford married Kay Griffith in 1940 and had two sons with her.
