... and not as a stranger (original title: Not as a Stranger ) is an American drama directed by Stanley Kramer from 1955 . The plot is based on the novel Not as a Stranger by Morton Thompson .
action
The destitute medical student Lucas Marsh is threatened with expulsion from the university because he cannot pay his tuition fees. In order to be able to finish his studies, he married the nurse Kristina Hedvigson. The marriage of convenience is not happy and Marsh's arrogance gets in the way of his career.
criticism
“A very broad, melodramatic image of life and character that respectfully and unmistakably emphasizes the medical ethos and respect for people. Impressively played, dense and excitingly staged, the film for its part builds up the positive image of a superman, with the blatantly patriarchal representation of gender roles in particular torpedoing the progressive message. "
