The House of Seven Sins is an American film directed by Tay Garnett from 1940. Marlene Dietrich and John Wayne played the leading roles in this Universal Pictures production . The film premiered on October 25, 1940. In Germany it was first released on July 8, 1949.

Bijou is a singer who works in a bar on a South Sea island. The men have fallen for it and often get into arguments. Therefore she is repeatedly expelled from the islands. Even now she should take the next steamer to leave the island on which she is currently working. She is supposed to take her friends with her, Little Ned, a deserted Navy sailor, and Sasha, a kleptomaniac magician.
On the steamer, she meets the ship's doctor, Dr. Martin, who, like her, is an outcast. Bijou learns that there is a new governor in office on the island the steamer is going to next. You, Sasha and Little Ned leave the ship there. She meets the Navy officer Lieutenant Brent. She decides to ask Tony, the owner of the House of Seven Sins bar, if he would hire her again as a singer. Antro, a dangerous knife thrower, gets Tony to hire her again.
Bijou and Brent fall in love, which makes Antro jealous. Their relationship with one another meets with rejection in the Navy. When the two want to get married, Ned and the Governor Bijou show the negative consequences this will have for their bridegroom's officer career. Bijou decides to leave Brent. On the eve of their departure, a fight ensues between the jealous Antro and Brent, for which Brent is then placed under arrest. The next morning, when Bijou enters the steamer with which she arrived, she is delighted by her friend Dr. Martin greeted.
