Curt A. Stark

Curt A. Stark (actually Kurt Schöltzel-Stark , born February 2, 1880 at Saupark Springe Castle ; † October 2, 1916 in Transylvania ) was a German actor and film director .

Life

He began his acting career in 1900 at the Harburger Stadttheater and subsequently played mostly on provincial stages, but also in Berlin. From 1905 to 1907 he traveled through the United States, made guest appearances at the Deutsches Theater in Milwaukee , where almost 70% of German immigrants lived around the turn of the century, and married an American. After his return he worked on various theaters in Berlin, including the Lessing Theater and the Residenz Theater .

Stark turned to the young medium of film at an early stage. He worked as an actor in several productions and became an assistant director for Oskar Messter . On October 10, 1912, he married his film partner Henny Porten . Since 1911 he has independently directed melodramas, dramas and comedies for Messter with Porten as the leading actress.

With her and the team he went on a film tour along the Mediterranean coast and through Italy, where The Valley of Dreams was filmed. When the First World War broke out in 1914, he was drafted and fell on the Transylvanian front in 1916.
