Arkadi Isaakowitsch Raikin ( Russian Аркадий Исаакович Райкин ; * October 11th July / October 24th  1911 greg. In Riga , Russian Empire ; †  December 17,  1987 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) was a Soviet pantomime , actor , director , satirist, comedian and theater manager.

Life

Arkadi Raikin studied at the theater institute in what was then Leningrad , began his acting career in 1935 and received first prize in the all-union competition in 1939. In that year he also became artistic director of the miniature theater in Leningrad. He developed more than 25 productions, was on tour in all socialist countries and took part in international festivals in Berlin (1962) and in the opening show of the BBC two television in London (1964). One of his most famous and successful productions was The Journey Around the World in 80 Days according to Jules Verne (1951). In addition to his theater work, he took over the direction of some of his own films and wrote the scripts.

Three years before his death he moved to Moscow and opened the Satirikon Theater there , which is continued by his son Konstantin Raikin . Both he and Arkadi Raikin's daughter Jekaterina Raikina can also be seen as actors in films.

power

Arkadi Raikin developed his own pantomime style from various elements from drama theater, operetta and cabaret , which made him internationally known. Even if pantomime was his main art, he did not renounce words and singing. He was also very successful as a satirist and comedian, especially in the former Soviet Union. In doing so he made fun of the Russian bureaucracy - always in danger of getting into conflict with the Stalinist rulers.

His films and his records, which were reissued on CD, are still found in online stock exchanges and sales houses.
