Harry Myers (born September 5, 1882 in New Haven , Connecticut , † December 25, 1938 in Hollywood , California ) was an American actor , screenwriter and silent film director .

Life

Harry Myers began his career as a stage actor. In 1908 he had his first film appearance, in the following years he played mainly in numerous short film comedies. Together with his wife Rosemary Theby he appeared in the silent film comedy series Lubin and Vim , for which he was also responsible as a director. He had his most successful time as an actor in the 1920s, at times he was considered a star. In 1921 he played the leading role in A Yankee at the Court of King Arthur after Mark Twain , in 1922 he played Robinson Crusoe . Myers had his last major and still best-known appearance in 1931 as a suicidal millionaire in Charles Chaplin's tragicomedy Lights of the Big City . With the start of the sound film, he received almost only minor roles.

By the time he died, Myers starred in nearly 300 films; In addition, he directed over 50 films by 1917 and also wrote the scripts for a number of silent films. Myers died of pneumonia at the age of 56. He was married to his screen partner Rosemary Thelby (1892-1973) from 1915 until his death.
