Heimat is a German feature film by Carl Froelich from 1938 based on the play of the same name by Hermann Sudermann .

action

After a long absence, the beautiful daughter of a Colonel a. D. returned to her hometown as an internationally celebrated singer. She is reconciled with her father, whom she left in an argument. However, because she refuses to marry the fraudulent bank manager von Keller, who left her with a child, the restored relationship with her father threatens to break again. Von Keller, who is in danger of being arrested for illegal banking transactions, shoots himself, and nothing stands in the way of the final reconciliation between father and daughter.

Awards

The film was awarded the title “State-politically and artistically valuable”, the directing award of the Biennale di Venezia (1938) and the national film award (1939). Zarah Leander , who usually didn't think much of her films, meant a lot to home .

Zarah Leander sings the alto aria "Buß und Reu '" from the St. Matthew Passion BWV 244 in this film.

In the fifth film in the Heimat series from 1982, the film from 1938 is shown in the cinema.
