Live and act

The son of the chemist Dr. phil. Oskar Lohse and his wife Käthe, née Froelich, attended a humanistic grammar school up to the Abitur and then began studying law and philosophy at the university for a few semesters. In 1931 he joined the production company Carl Froelichs as a trainee and in a very short time advanced to the position of master editor. From 1932 to 1941 Lohse edited Froelich's stagings and productions almost exclusively before he was drafted in 1941. Lohse served continuously until 1945 and then remained in captivity for a year.

Back in civil life, Gustav Lohse settled in Hamburg and worked there from 1947 to 1952 mostly as a dubbing and dialogue director for foreign language films. Gustav Lohse wrote the screenplay in 1950 for Froelich's first post-war director, the comedy “ Conspiracy at Erlenhof ”. In Froelich's last feature film production “ Torreani ” the following year, Lohse returned to film editing for the last time . When Froelich withdrew from the film business, Gustav Lohse only worked for cultural and documentary films (as an editor, screenwriter and director).
