Quarrel about Jolanthe
Krach to Iolanthe , or pig Comedy , Low German title : Swienskummedi even Swienskomödi is a German comedy in three acts by August Hinrichs .
action
1931: Farmer Lampken / Sterff refuses to pay his taxes. He is supported by the local teacher, who is in love with the daughter of the house, with the typing. Thereupon his breeding sow Jolanthe is seized. In the subsequent auction not a single bid will be submitted. The sergeant then locks the sow in the fire station. The next morning the sow disappeared from the syringe house and several sows were slaughtered in the village.
During the subsequent interrogations by the sergeant, as the farmers cover each other, the teacher is suspected of stealing the sow. During the further investigation, the police officer also finds out the cattle dealer who bought Jolanthe. When the sergeant tries to arrest the farmer, his daughter reveals that she was with the bailiff the day before and paid the debt. Since the sergeant was investigating the whole day, the bailiff could not reach him.
Remarks
The piece, which is located in the Lower German area, was taken over by the northern German broadcasters, among others, by the Bavarian radio and broadcast on radio and television. The plot was shifted to Bavarian, and the characters were given names that better fit the local image. For example, the farmer Lampken became Leonhard Sterff and his farmhand Hinnerk became farmhand Sepp.
In the ARD radio play database, the following text can be read on the radio play Wenn de Hahn kreiht from 1977: “The Oldenburg playwright August Hinrichs (1879 to 1956) is neither one of the 'classics' nor one of the 'pioneers' of the Low German theater , but if you wanted to make a list of the most successful Low German playwrights, his name would be at the top by a long way before any other. In the twenties and thirties he was one of the most played playwrights; his pieces were played all over Germany and abroad, and even the film took on his works ('Krach um Jolanthe'). Even today, his comedies - whether they are presented in the Low German language on the stage or in ' Missingsch ' on the screen - are still very popular. August Hinrichs owes this success, which has now lasted for several decades, above all to his craftsmanship and his unerring instinct for comic material. "
