Willy Richartz

Willy Richartz (born September 25, 1900 in Cologne , † August 8, 1972 in Bad Tölz ) was a German composer and conductor .

Life

Richartz initially studied law and received his doctorate from the University of Cologne in 1925 . He also studied music at the Cologne Conservatory . He then worked as a conductor at theaters in Munich and Berlin . During the time of National Socialism he was director of the Reichssender Berlin and director of the dance orchestra of Radio Berlin .

After the Second World War , he became the founder of the German Composers' Association alongside Werner Egk . He became an honorary member of GEMA for his services to reforming copyright law .

As a composer, he has mainly light music and operettas written. He is buried in the forest cemetery in Bad Tölz.
