The industrial park Alte Fabrik Altenburg is a 12,000 m² site in the center of the East Thuringian city of Altenburg, which was built at the end of the 19th century . The site is located north of the city center between the train station and the historic market square.

history

At the end of the 19th century, industrialization created factories all over Germany. The Skatstadt Altenburg is located in central Germany, next to the Ruhr area, the second major industrial center in Germany at that time. Here resourceful Saxons and Thuringians worked on inventions of their time, including the sewing machine . Theodor Geiffert began building sewing machines in 1855.

In 1871 the factory owner Leopold Oskar Dietrich founded the first industrial sewing machine factory with two partners. " Dietrich and Co ".

In 1880 Dietrich laid the foundation stone for the factory building, the facade of which has largely been preserved to this day. For many years his company held the market leadership in the manufacture of industrial sewing machines. LO Dietrich's sewing machine factory, later also known as Textima and ALTIN, made a name for itself and the city of Altenburg far beyond the country's borders.

In the years 1911 to 1914, the part of the building that is currently being used for residential purposes was built.

Floor plan and current use

Today the business park is divided into the following areas:

The foundry, Manufaktur, Kontor and Altin houses make up the actual industrial park in which numerous companies, including the Gumpert sports car manufacturer , have settled.

The Schloßblick house is currently being converted into a senior citizens' residence for 104 residents.

In the house factory lofts shortly apartments are to be built for seniors.
