Max Eckard (born October 25, 1914 in Kiel ; † December 6, 1998 ) was a German actor , radio play and voice actor .

Life

Max Eckard, actually Max Eckard Hass, was born in Kiel as the son of a cinema owner.

Max Eckard first worked as a stage actor in Berlin, Hamburg and until 1955 in Düsseldorf under Gustaf Gründgens , then at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. Although Eckard made his film debut in 1934 with the comedy Krach um Jolanthe , film appearances remain rare, such as in 1949 alongside Willy Millowitsch in Wanted is Majora or alongside Jenny Jugos in the comedy Träum 'nicht, Annette (1950). Gründgens cast him in 1960 as Valentin in his legendary film adaptation of Faust .

He was often present on television, especially in productions of stage dramas. He played William Tell (1966) and Antonio in William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice (1968). He achieved particular popularity in 1963 as the leading actor in the television multipartist Tim Frazer after Francis Durbridge . The filmed Durbridge thrillers had such high ratings in the 1960s that they became known as street sweepers . The production of Tim Frazer was successful (audience ratings from 80 to 93%), making 1964 another miniseries was filmed ( The case Salinger ) - again with Eckard in the lead role. In 1964 he received the bronze Bravo Otto from the youth magazine BRAVO. After the late 1960s, Eckard withdrew more and more from film and television. One of his last roles was a guest appearance in the ZDF crime series Derrick .

In addition, Max Eckard worked extensively in the dubbing and dubbed internationally well-known actors such as Sean Connery ( The Red Tent ), Karl Malden ( Endstation Sehnsucht ), Yves Montand ( Grand Prix ), Gregory Peck ( The King's Admiral ), Gérard Philipe ( The Idiot ) and Raf Vallone ( bitter rice ).

Since 1947 he worked extensively as a radio play speaker, preferably for the broadcasting houses of the NWDR and the BR . He was almost always one of the main characters. He played many classical roles in models by Friedrich Schiller , Johann Wolfgang von Goethe or William Shakespeare . But he was also heard in crime novels, such as in 1951 as a narrator in the 6 parts of the series From the Secret Files of Scotland Yard , which dealt with true criminal cases from the files of the British authorities. In 1953 and 1954 he gave the reporter Rex Rendal his voice in all 12 parts. In 1951 he spoke the role of Robert Wilson in the aired version of the story The Brief Happy Life of Francis Macomber by Ernest Hemingway . In the film version (Title: The Macomber Affair ) from 1947, Gregory Peck played this role. He also spoke to the father in Otfried Preussler 's children's radio play The Little Aquarius .
