The red tent (original title: Krasnaja palatka and La tenda rossa ) is a Soviet-Italian adventure film by the director Mikhail Kalatosow from 1969 . Sean Connery , Claudia Cardinale , Hardy Krüger and Peter Finch played the leading roles . The film started on October 15, 1971 in West German cinemas in the 121-minute Italian version, the significantly longer Soviet version was shown in the GDR (in its own dubbing) from July 30.

action

On May 25, 1928, the Italian designer Umberto Nobile crashed his airship Italia on the way back from the North Pole . But the survivors can save themselves in a tent, which they paint red in order to be discovered. The rescue operations that have been started are very difficult due to the weather. Nevertheless, the pilot Einar Lundborg manages to find the crew. He persuades the only seriously injured Nobile to be the first to be flown out, which works. After that, however, the weather deteriorates and the rest of the crew are left to their fate. Night after night, Nobile is plagued by nightmares that form the framework of the film.

background

The plot of the film is largely based on fact. On June 18, 1928 , Roald Amundsen set out to head a rescue expedition for Umberto Nobile, whose airship had crashed in the Arctic , and was killed in the process. The ZDF two-parter Seven Weeks on the Ice , which was broadcast in 1967, was based on the same facts. It was directed by Fritz Umgelter based on a script by Helmut Pigge , with Günter Mack , Claus Biederstaedt , Günter Strack , Hellmut Lange , Volkert Kraeft and Werner Kreindl playing the main roles .

criticism

"The unsuccessful airship polar expedition of the Italian General Nobile in 1928 and the search for the survivors as the subject of a technically superbly designed and prominent adventure film with melodramatic accents."

"Elaborate, thrilling adventure film based on facts."
