Franco Cristaldi

Franco Cristaldi (born October 3, 1924 in Turin , Italy , † July 1, 1992 in Monte Carlo ) was an Italian film producer . In 1946 he founded the production company Vides Cinematografica in Turin . He was involved in more than 70 film productions.

Career

In 1946 Cristaldi Vides founded Cinematografica in Turin. Initially only short films and documentaries were produced, later the company was renamed Cristaldifilm in the 1980s.

Cristaldi began making feature films in the 1950s and moved to Rome. During his long career he worked with Francesco Rosi , Pietro Germi , Mario Monicelli , Federico Fellini , Luchino Visconti and Giuseppe Tornatore . The most successful films included The Name of the Rose and Cinema Paradiso .

In 1977 Cristaldi was elected President of the International Federation of Film Producers Associations and was a member of the jury at the 1984 Cannes Film Festival .

Private life

He was initially married to Carla Simonetti, with whom he had a son, Massimo. He applied to the Vatican for the annulment of his marriage - in this way the ban on divorce could be circumvented. This enabled him to marry the actress Claudia Cardinale . Until their divorce in 1975, he promoted his wife's career. In 1983 he married Zeudi Araya . Franco Cristaldi died in Monte Carlo in 1992.
