Yuri Mefodjewitsch Solomin ( Russian Юрий Мефодьевич Соломин ; born June 18, 1935 in Chita ) is a Russian actor and theater director. Since 1988 he has been the artistic director of the Maly Theater in Moscow .

Life

Yuri Solomin's parents were music teachers. As a schoolboy he was still enthusiastic about the theater. After school he moved to Moscow and studied drama at the Shchepkin School at the Maly Theater from 1953 to 1957. Since graduation he has been a member of the Maly Theater company. Since 1980 he has also worked as a theater director and in 1988 took over the artistic direction of the Maly Theater.

Since 1960 Solomin has also been active as a film actor. Among other things, he played the role of the Russian officer and geographer Vladimir Arsenjew in Akira Kurosawa's Uzala strip in the Kyrgyzstan .

Between July 1990 and November 1991, Solomin was also Minister of Culture of the RSFSR .

His younger brother Vitali Solomin was also an actor.
