Peter Zinner

Peter Zinner (born July 24, 1919 in Vienna , † November 13, 2007 in Santa Monica , California ) was an Austrian-American film editor .

Life

Peter Zinner graduated from Theresianum in 1937. Due to his Jewish origins, he had to emigrate with his parents in 1938 and came to Los Angeles via the Philippines in 1940 , where he initially worked as a taxi driver and as a piano player in silent film cinemas. In 1960 Zinner founded his own film editing company and later taught his daughter the craft.

1979 got Zinner the Academy Award for Best Editing for The Deer Hunter (The Deer Hunter) . Other well-known films in which Zinner helped as editor were The Godfather (1972), The Godfather - Part II (1974) and A Star Is Born (1976). As an actor, he was in the film The Hunt for Red October by John McTiernan to see.

In 1959 Zinner married Christa, an artist of German origin. Their daughter Katina Zinner (* 1961) also works as an editor.
