Kurt Reiss (director)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kurt Reiss (* 1903 in Zweibrücken , † January 5, 1960 in Hamburg ) was a German director , actor and author .

Life

Kurt Reiss originally came off the stage before he was hired as director of the Münchner Kammerspiele . The works he staged there included:

At the Kammerspiele he was not particularly respected. The always mocking ensemble of the house, which often expressed itself in a derogatory way, especially to guest directors, called him the rayon boss or the clothing manufacturer because of his somewhat exaggerated elegance . When he slapped his girlfriend at the time, the actress Maria Byk , on Maximilianstrasse one evening , there was a crowd. A policeman took the jealous Reiss with him to the station. The management of the Kammerspiele then took this as an external reason to fire the director for public nuisance.

According to the German Stage Yearbook , he had been an actor since 1923 and then worked at the following theaters:

Since 1945 he has been working as a freelancer for NWDR Hamburg and its legal successor, Norddeutscher Rundfunk . He wrote numerous scripts for radio plays and partly implemented them as a director. Later he also worked for the Bavarian Radio , the Süddeutscher Rundfunk and Radio Bremen . Occasionally he also worked as an author and director for film productions for the NDR. In an obituary, the Hamburger Abendblatt called him a “pioneer of the modern form of radio play”.
